ChatGPT’s $200 Pro plan is finally coming back, but OpenAI is changing the deal
OpenAI is reopening new subscriptions to its $200 ChatGPT Pro plan on September 30 after pausing them earlier this month.
The returning plan offers about half the previous API-dollar allowance, though OpenAI says cheaper models and the removal of the five-hour cap should offset it.
Meanwhile, an unannounced $500/month ChatGPT Pro Max tier has surfaced, promising the “Fastest Work and Codex” as a key perk.
For nearly three weeks, anyone who wanted ChatGPT’s most expensive individual plan had to wait on the sidelines. OpenAI paused new sign-ups for its $200 Pro tier on September 10 after unprecedented demand for GPT-6 Astra, leaving the $100 Pro option as the highest plan newcomers could actually buy. That wait is about to end, but the returning $200 plan won’t work exactly like the one that disappeared.
