Ring’s upcoming smart lock addresses battery worries with a hand crank

Ring has announced its first-ever smart lock, which can be recharged with a built-in energy crank in the thumbturn.

This smart lock includes a fingerprint scanner and a touchscreen keypad, and users can control it through the Ring app or Alexa commands.

Ring has also launched four new indoor and outdoor 4K cameras, along with an entry-level 2K indoor pan-and-tilt camera.

Amazon-owned Ring sells a wide range of smart home products, including doorbells, cameras, security systems, and several other accessories. One product that’s missing from its portfolio is a smart door lock. The company is now filling that gap with its first-ever smart lock.

Known simply as the Ring Smart Lock, it practically eliminates battery-related anxiety, thanks to an “energy crank” built into the thumbturn. “Crank it a few times and the lock powers itself right back up,” Ring says in the announcement. …
