Apple TV 4K offers Google TV users a more powerful, privacy-focused alternative (for a price)

Apple announces the Apple TV 4K with an A19 chip.

It’s pricey at $299, but that cost might be inevitable in a chip-shortage world.

Google is reportedly working on an updated Google TV Streamer, but some might be frustrated enough with the platform to move to Apple.

The Google TV Streamer just got its biggest competition yet. Apple has announced the fourth generation of its sleek little streamer, the Apple TV 4K, and in many ways it has a lot of advantages over Google’s premium streaming set-top box and its brethren.

While the Apple TV 4K is positioned as a friendly addition to the Apple Home ecosystem, it might just win over Android fans as well with a chip that can accommodate high-quality streaming, hands-free control thanks to far-field microphones, an experience that’s not as notorious for its glitches, and a more privacy-focused bent.
