Ex-Rockstar Boss Dan Houser Doesn't Play a Lot of Open-World Games – and Doesn't Plan to Play GTA 6

Dan Houser, the former co-boss of Rockstar Games and former creative director on the Grand Theft Auto series, doesn't play a lot of open-world games. And he doesn't plan on playing GTA 6 either. But it's for a good creative reason: he doesn't want to be influenced by them as he works on his two new game projects at his new enterprise, Absurd Ventures.

"Given that I spend a large amount of time trying to make open-world games, and the rest of my conscious time trying to figure out innovative ways to market them, I don’t need to see what other people are [doing]," he told Variety. I’m always trying to think about new ways of doing it, not sit there in some kind of comparison of what I would have done differently."

"It’s not my job within any company that I’ve ever worked at, thankfully, to be the person that understands what everyone else is doing," Houser continued. …
