TL;DR OpenAI is experiencing elevated error rates across ChatGPT, Codex, and API.

The company warns that users may experience “failed requests, difficulty logging in or signing up, and tasks that do not complete.”

The outage appears to have started at around 2:00 PM ET.

Update, September 30, 2026 (08:32 AM ET): ChatGPT has resolved the issues that caused “degraded performance.” The service will publish a detailed Root Cause Analysis (RCA) within the next 5 business days.
